On Paper

This series of work focusses on the use of oil as the basis for creating work which attempts to capture energy in its many forms. This comes out of an obsession with the unseen forces around us and how these control our environment and our experience of it.

Experimenting with Different Surfaces

2020/21. Oil on Wood and Canvas board

These new works are the start of an investigation of different surfaces beyond paper to see how they respond to oil bar, my favoured medium in this series.

Triptychs: distilling the process

2017. Oil on Paper

My recent works on paper are part of a period of honing my process of working with oil on paper to create simple meditative work that has a depth and enables the viewer to see beyond the surface to energy and movement across scales.

Large Works on Paper: increasing scale and movement

2014. Oil on Paper

As I developed this series I moved up in scale, a relatively new experience as I find comfort in the small and focussed. This increase in scale challenged me to use my body as part of my process, rather than being controlled and I have been able to use and incorporate new movements to make marks and to express myself in a different way.

Movement on Paper: working actively with the surface

2014-2017. Oil on Paper

This series of work came out of a desire to be more actively involved in what I produce and not use alchemy in my usual way. The resulting work is much more direct and the relationship between myself and the work much closer as I've found different ways of creating marks using my hands to push and manipulate the oil.
